When a customer orders a precision cast aluminum plate cut to a specific size, the material left over is the off-cut. We saw it, store it, and offer it at a reduced price because the rough cost has already been recovered.
The material itself is unchanged. It is the same G.AL® cast plate, milled from the same EN AW-5083 billet, with the same ultra-low internal stress, flatness, and machinability you would get from a full-size order. It simply comes in a non-standard size.
When an off-cut beats ordering custom
Speed: Off-cuts ship the same or next business day from Oldcastle. A custom-cut order from Germany takes two to four weeks.
Price: Off-cuts are priced below new-order cost. If the extra material is scrap for you anyway, you still come out ahead.
Prototyping and tooling: For a one-off jig, fixture, or mold plate where size flexibility exists, an off-cut is the fastest and cheapest option.

C250
The flagship precision cast aluminum plate in EN AW-5083, O3 temper. Ultra-low internal stress, exceptional flatness right off the shelf, and consistent properties throughout the plate. The benchmark material for mold making worldwide.
Common applications: mold plates, jigs, fixtures, automation components, and semiconductor equipment.

C210R
Same EN AW-5083, O3 temper alloy as C250, precision sawn on all six faces. The “R” means tighter thickness tolerances and a cleaner surface finish compared to a milled cast plate. Less pre-machining before you can use it.
Common applications: injection mold plates, prototype frames, jig bodies, vacuum chucks, and precision machined parts.

C330R
The highest-strength grade in the G.AL® range, precision sawn in EN AW-7021, T79 temper. For applications where C250 strength is not enough: heavy-duty mold plates, high-load tooling, and thermal management components.
Same precision sawn surface as C210R, with significantly higher tensile and yield strength.

What is an aluminum plate off-cut?
An off-cut is the piece left over after a full G.AL® plate has been cut to a customer order. The material is identical to the original plate: same alloy, same heat treatment, same EN 10204 3.1 certificate. The only difference is size.
Are off-cuts the same quality as ordering to size?
Yes. Every off-cut is cut from the same G.AL® precision cast aluminum plate you would order in full size. The alloy, temper, flatness, and certification are identical. You are buying a smaller piece, not a lower grade.
When does an off-cut beat ordering custom cut?
When the off-cut is already close enough to your required size, and you need material quickly. Off-cuts ship the same or next day. A custom order from Germany takes two to four weeks. If the extra material is not a cost problem, an off-cut is almost always faster and cheaper.
What is the minimum order?
The minimum order is CAD 75.00 net. If the pieces you select total less than that, a small top-up is applied automatically and shown at checkout before you confirm anything.
Do you ship off-cuts across Canada?
Yes. We ship to all Canadian provinces. Freight is quoted after you submit your order and confirmed before invoicing. US customers may pick up at our Oldcastle, ON location.
Can I get a material certificate for an off-cut?
Yes. A copy of the EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate is included at no charge with every G.AL® plate shipment.
What if the size I need is not listed?
If we don't have an off-cut that fits, we can cut a full plate to your size and ship within the standard lead time. Contact us with your dimensions for a quote.
